Dear Budding Aviator,
My name's Kelvin and way back in 1977 I proudly qualified as a UK Private Pilot's Licence holder.
I was quite fortunate to pass all of my knowledge tests first time, but some of my scores were not as high as I would have liked. It was a matter of personal pride that I would get maximum marks in each subject. Well, I managed that in a couple of the papers, but others left me feeling a little sheepish.
The problem I had at that time was that I could study all I liked, but I had no way of really knowing whether I had absorbed all of the required knowledge. Now, when I was at university, I found that one of the best ways to really hammer information into my brain was to get my course-buddies to ask me relevant questions. This worked well with people on the same courses as myself, because they knew what sort of questions to ask and could understand my answers. They had the knowledge and background to be able to do that, as I did when it was my turn to be the inquisitor.
But back in the real world, it's a lot harder to find the right person to take on that role. And if the person you ask to test you is not a flyer (or aviation enthusiast) they might not even know what a pitot tube is, let alone the importance of ensuring that it's not obstructed as part of your pre-flight checks.
So I decided that I'd create my own question and answer system - a set of quizzes, if you like - that covers every aspect of the new test. This will take me a fair bit of time and effort to set up, so I thought that I'd take the step of making it available to anyone else wanting to check their exam readiness.
See you up there soon.
All the very best.
